RAWALPINDI: Two additional witnesses have recorded their statements in the ongoing GHQ attack case, which was heard on Saturday in Adiala Jail. The proceedings were overseen by ATC Rawalpindi Judge Amjad Ali Shah, with PTI founder Imran Khan being presented before the court.
The prosecution recorded the testimonies of Constable Imran, who had taken photographs of the damages during the May 9 attacks. He submitted 15 pictures as evidence. Additionally, SDO Building Owais Shah presented his statement, along with an official damage estimate report. According to the report, the financial losses caused by the GHQ attack amounted to Rs. 780,000.
However, two witnesses were unable to record their statements due to incomplete supplementary reports. The prosecution also submitted 13 USB drives containing digital evidence, which were saved onto a computer as per the court’s directive. The court clarified that any accused party seeking access to the digital evidence could apply for it.
Notices were issued to PID, PEMRA, and FIA, while the SSP Operations Rawalpindi was served a notice for not submitting a complete internal security report.
The court adjourned the hearing until February 6, ordering that all pending supplementary reports be finalized and submitted by the next hearing.
The May 9 protests, which led to the violence, saw PTI supporters setting fire to and vandalizing state buildings and military sites after the arrest of Imran Khan in a corruption case. Imran Khan was formally indicted on December 5, 2023, and has been in detention in Adiala Jail since August 2023. He was arrested by Rawalpindi police in January 2024 in connection with the May 9 protest case and has filed an application for acquittal.
