RAWALPINDI: Two retired officers of the Pakistan Army, Major (Retired) Adil Farooq Raja and Captain (Retired) Haider Raza Mehdi, have been handed down significant sentences for the charges of inciting sedition among army officers.
ISPR said in a statement on Saturday that the two Retired Pakistan Army Officers Awarded Sentences for Sedition following a thorough legal process. The verdict, delivered through a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, has sent shockwaves through the military community.
Major (Retired) Adil Farooq Raja, once adorned with accolades, now faces a daunting 14 years of rigorous imprisonment, while Captain (Retired) Haider Raza Mehdi has been sentenced to 12 years of the same. Adding to their fall from grace, the ranks of both officers were officially forfeited on November 21, 2023.
The charges that led to these severe sentences include inciting sedition among army personnel, disrupting the discharge of their duties, and the violation of the provisions of the Official Secrets Act, 1923. The latter involves allegations related to espionage and acts prejudicial to the safety and interest of the State.
The court found both individuals guilty and passed judgment on October 7th and 9th, 2023, following a proper legal process, said ISPR.
