United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged the international community to prevent further conflict following Iran’s attack on Israel. Stressing the urgency of de-escalation in the Middle East, Guterres warned of the dire consequences of escalating tensions.
He called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid a full-scale conflict. Iran’s attack, which involved over 300 missiles and drones, heightened tensions between the two countries. Despite most projectiles being intercepted, Israel reported injuries.
The recent hostilities originated from an airstrike on Tehran’s consulate in Damascus attributed to Israel. Guterres also emphasized the need for a ceasefire in Gaza to avert a worsening crisis, condemning actions from both sides that could exacerbate regional conflicts.
