High-level meeting reviews KP security, focuses on coordinated counter-terror efforts
PESHAWAR: Authorities have finalized a unified strategy to strengthen the fight against terrorism during a high-level security meeting held at Corps Headquarters Peshawar, where officials also announced that Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 matches will be hosted in Peshawar as part of efforts to restore public confidence.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Interior Minister, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, National Security Adviser, Corps Commander Peshawar, and senior civil and military officials.
Participants reviewed the overall security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and paid tribute to civilians and security personnel who lost their lives in terrorist incidents. Officials reaffirmed their resolve to eliminate terrorism through coordinated policy and operational measures.
During the meeting, officials stressed the need for effective coordination between the federal and provincial governments to ensure a unified policy stance against terrorism. The participants agreed that joint planning, intelligence sharing, and administrative reforms were essential to counter evolving security threats.
Authorities decided to immediately implement a provincial governance model in Malakand Division under the supervision of provincial police and administrative institutions. The model will later be expanded to terrorism-affected districts including Khyber, Orakzai, and Kurram.
A special sub-committee headed by the KP Chief Minister will be formed to monitor development projects and security operations in these areas. The committee will hold monthly review meetings and include elected public representatives, Corps Commander Peshawar, Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, provincial officials, and representatives of federal institutions.
Officials emphasized that sustainable development and employment opportunities would play a key role in preventing radicalization among youth. The committee will focus on governance reforms, development initiatives, and creating long-term income opportunities for local communities.
Authorities also decided to introduce effective measures to address challenges faced by temporarily displaced persons in conflict-affected areas.
The meeting decided to continue strict action against illegal SIM cards, explosives, extortion networks, and other criminal activities that support terrorism. Officials also agreed to accelerate profiling of non-custom-paid vehicles as part of security monitoring efforts.
Officials announced that PSL 2026 matches will be held in Peshawar, describing the move as a reflection of improved security conditions and growing public confidence in the province’s stability.
