In a story of courage, perseverance, and unbreakable resolve, two men emerged as the champions of justice for government employees unlawfully detained while serving the people.
Kamal Shah, a dedicated member of Rescue 1122, and Fateh Ullah Barki, an advocate at the Islamabad High Court, fought tirelessly to secure the release of Rescue 1122, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Police, and TMA employees arrested under questionable circumstances.
The incident unfolded at the Hazro Interchange, where Punjab Police reportedly detained Rescue 1122 personnel, KPK police guards, and TMA employees. These officers were stationed to assist with emergencies at the request of the Chief Minister of KPK.
Despite the Rescue Act permitting Rescue 1122 teams to operate anywhere in Pakistan, emergency vehicles were seized, and employees were detained by Punjab Police, allegedly without legal grounds.
The detainees faced harsh accusations, including charges under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA)—a move that raised serious concerns among legal experts, as applying terrorism charges against government officials carrying out their duties was seen as both excessive and unjust.
The Chief Minister of KPK had directed the presence of Rescue 1122 and other officials due to the potential for escalations and emergencies.
His concerns proved justified when peaceful protests turned violent, leading to the use of tear gas shells by the Punjab and Islamabad police.
In response, Rescue 1122 swiftly managed five critical emergencies, transporting injured individuals to safety. Yet, instead of recognition for their service, these employees found themselves locked up and facing terrorism charges.
Kamal Shah and Fateh Ullah Barki refused to let this injustice stand. Determined to bring these public servants back home, they pursued the case in court relentlessly, navigating a barrage of new FIRs lodged against the detained employees.
Despite constant obstacles, Kamal Shah and Barki’s efforts never wavered. After a lengthy and hard-fought legal struggle, they achieved victory, securing bail for the detainees and reuniting them with their families.
The story didn’t end there. Upon their release, the detainees were taken to the Chief Minister’s House, where they were met with gratitude and commendations.
In a remarkable show of appreciation, the Chief Minister awarded each of the rescued employees a promotion and a double salary, honoring their resilience and dedication under such difficult circumstances.
This tale of bravery underscores the significance of Kamal Shah and Fateh Ullah Barki’s dedication. Their tenacity ensured not only the freedom of their colleagues but also restored faith in justice for government employees.
They will be remembered as the heroes who stood firm for justice, undeterred by challenges and unwavering in their commitment to those who serve.
