WASHINGTON: The United States and Pakistan share a mutual interest in addressing regional security threats, according to US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.
During a media briefing in Washington on Thursday, Miller highlighted the collaborative efforts between the two nations, emphasizing their high-level counterterrorism dialogue and various capacity-building programs. He also mentioned ongoing military-to-military engagements between the US and Pakistan.
Miller stated that the US maintains regular communication with Pakistani leaders as part of their partnership on counterterrorism issues. This dialogue encompasses detailed discussions on regional security, facilitated through the annual counterterrorism dialogue and other bilateral consultations.
In response to a question about US relations with Pakistan and India, Miller affirmed the importance of both relationships. He reiterated the US stance that direct discussions between India and Pakistan are supported, but the specifics of these discussions should be determined by the two countries themselves, not by the US.
