US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, met with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to discuss Pakistan-US relations and matters of mutual interest, focusing on cooperation in anti-terrorism, narcotics control, and security.
Both parties underscored the importance of enhancing collaboration to combat terrorism and drug trafficking. Minister Naqvi emphasized the critical role of US support in boosting the capacity of Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies, stating, “US cooperation is important in enhancing the capacity of law enforcement agencies.”
Minister Naqvi assured Ambassador Blome of the Interior Ministry’s dedication to strengthening and stabilizing bilateral relations. “The Ministry of Interior will provide full support in making mutual relations more stable,” he affirmed.
A key outcome of the meeting was the announcement of an upcoming visit by a delegation from the Islamabad Police to New York to benefit from mutual cooperation. Naqvi highlighted the desire of Islamabad police officers to receive training from the New York Police Department, stating, “Islamabad police officers want training from the New York police department.”
In addition to security cooperation, the protection of minority rights in Pakistan was also discussed. Naqvi reiterated that all minorities in Pakistan have equal rights under the Constitution and that the government is committed to their protection. “All minorities living in Pakistan have equal rights under the Constitution of Pakistan,” he affirmed. He further stated, “Protection of minorities is the responsibility of the government, and all possible measures have been taken in this regard.”
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism about the future of Pakistan-US relations and a mutual commitment to working together to address common challenges.
