A powerful winter storm has brought life to a standstill across parts of the United States, leaving millions of people without electricity and disrupting air travel nationwide.
According to US media reports, the hardest-hit areas include Rhode Island, New York City and Massachusetts. Heavy snowfall and strong winds have caused widespread damage and travel chaos.
Officials confirmed that more than three feet of snow was recorded in Rhode Island, breaking decades-old records. Meanwhile, nearly 20 inches of snow blanketed Central Park in New York City. Roads, parks and residential areas were completely covered in snow, forcing authorities to shut down key routes.
In Massachusetts, the government declared a state of emergency and urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Authorities warned that road conditions remain dangerous due to icy surfaces and low visibility.
The aviation sector also suffered major disruptions. Aviation officials said more than 5,600 flights were cancelled across the country. Several major airports reported severe operational delays as airlines struggled to manage the extreme weather.
In addition, strong winds damaged power lines, leaving millions without electricity. Emergency crews are working around the clock to restore power and clear snow from critical roads.
