ISLAMABAD – The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) has firmly denied rumors about the termination of the Fulbright Programme for Pakistani students.
In an official statement issued on Friday, USEFP made it clear that the Fulbright Programme remains active. It continues to offer fully funded academic exchange opportunities to Pakistanis. Multiple U.S. government-backed initiatives, including Fulbright, are still available to students from Pakistan.
“Participants currently in the United States under the Fulbright scholarship are receiving their financial support without interruption,” the foundation stated. It rejected claims suggesting that the Fulbright education initiative had ended or that Pakistani students were being abandoned abroad.
The clarification came after the recent closure of the Global Undergraduate Exchange Programme (UGRAD) in Pakistan. That initiative had been running for 15 years before its termination. The sudden news caused confusion and concern among current and aspiring scholars.
Despite the UGRAD shutdown, USEFP stressed that the Fulbright Programme stands unaffected. It continues to provide support for Master’s and PhD studies. It also funds fellowships under the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) component.
The foundation reaffirmed that there has been no change in the status of Pakistani students already taking part in the UGRAD programme. All support remains in place.
Over the years, the Fulbright funding has played a vital role in helping Pakistani students gain access to quality education in the United States. The initiative is one of the largest U.S.-sponsored academic exchange efforts in the world.
By offering generous academic grants, the U.S. study grant programme builds people-to-people ties and strengthens mutual understanding between Pakistan and the United States.
