Caretaker Chief Minister Muhammad Azam Khan held a meeting where suggestions were proposed to cut government official salaries and pensions to cope with the KPK’s soaring economy.
After the meeting, various civil servant organizations protested in front of the Press Club. The officials added that they could not tolerate the pension reforms and salary cuts. Government employees have not burdened the treasury, those who looted the provincial treasury should be held accountable.
Demonstrators warned that if our demands are not resolved, they will protest in front of the Provincial Assembly.
It is pertinent to mention that the Government has increased the salaries of government officials this year.
In a move to coup high inflation, the federal cabinet has approved an increase in salaries by up to 35% for government employees.
Furthermore, the interim Chief Minister called a meeting on October, 25 to discuss KPK’s financial issues, where it was suggested to cut down pensions and the raise of 35pc given to government officials to cope with KPK’s declining economy.
Today the caretaker government has passed a mini-budget starting from November 2023 till February 2024.
whereas the government has decided that they would not cut the salaries and allowances of government employees.
Despite the dire financial situation and this move has been made conditional on payment of arrears from the Centre.
