BAJAUR: A violent conflict erupted at the Bajaur Sports Complex on Friday during the final match of the Bajaur Cricket League. Tensions escalated after the third umpire declared a player from ‘Team 804’ out. Tragically, the incident resulted in one man losing his life and three others injured, including a police officer.
The match was immediately halted due to the chaos. One of the injured individuals later succumbed to his injuries. The other three, including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), were rushed to the hospital for medical care.
Live footage captured the scene as many spectators surged towards a room, ransacking it. Some participants in the conflict wielded cricket bats and pipes during the altercation. Other footage showed people fleeing toward the pavilion, even jumping off the grill as the fighting intensified.
Many of the spectators were seen holding flags of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The name “804” references the incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan, which is the prisoner number assigned to him in Attock Jail. The use of this name added another layer to the already charged atmosphere at the event.
