ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has reignited the debate on the Kalabagh Dam, saying that Pakistan’s unity must not be compromised in the name of provincialism. He stressed that such national projects require full consensus and must serve the broader interest of the country.
Speaking to reporters, Gandapur underlined the need to address all reservations before moving forward. “Everyone must be satisfied. These projects should be for our children, our generations, and Pakistan,” he said. His strong defense of the Kalabagh Dam has raised the question of whether PTI’s central leadership will extend full support to his stance.
The KP CM linked his remarks with the ongoing challenges of heavy rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods in the province. He said relief and rescue efforts were underway despite limited resources. Gandapur also expressed solidarity with Punjab. “Punjab is our brother, and the people living there are our own,” he said, adding that KP had offered Punjab assistance wherever needed.
By placing the Kalabagh Dam at the center of his message, Gandapur has opened a wider debate within PTI ranks. Observers now ask: will PTI Founder Imran Khan and Chairman Barrister Gohar endorse this vision? Both leaders have remained cautious in the past, but Gandapur’s remarks create new pressure for the central leadership to clarify their position.
The future of the Kalabagh Dam, long considered a national but controversial water project, may now hinge on whether PTI’s top leadership joins Gandapur in openly supporting it. His call has revived a sensitive issue that demands unity, clarity, and political courage.
