Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan: As of December 18, students in both public and private schools are embarking on their winter holidays, a respite crucial in the face of rising challenges related to smog, poor air quality, and dense fog in Lahore.
The annual break, spanning until January 2, 2024, proves especially beneficial for students, shielding them from navigating through hazardous dense fog and low visibility conditions during their commute to school.
The widespread fog has significantly impacted areas such as Defence Housing Authority (DHA) phases 1 to 5, DHA Phase 9 town, Askari 11 Lahore, DHA Phase 6, DHA Phase 8, DHA Rahbar, and housing societies along Bedian Road.
Notable affected zones include Pace Woodlands, Bankers Housing Society, Askari 11 Sector C, Formanites Housing Society, State Life Housing Society, and Sui Gas Housing Society.
Moreover, areas near Thokar Niaz Baig Lahore, including LDA Avenue 1, Wapda Town, and Johar Town, have also experienced reduced visibility.
To address the challenges posed by the prevailing weather conditions, the Lahore Ring Road is periodically closed as a precautionary measure during periods of intensified fog.
The winter vacation aims to prioritize the safety and well-being of students, offering them a break until normalcy is restored and commuting becomes safer.
