In a groundbreaking announcement on Friday, Elon Musk revealed that the popular social media platform, formerly known as Twitter and now rebranded as X, is gearing up to introduce two innovative premium subscription tiers.
Musk provided a glimpse into the upcoming subscription plans, stating that one tier will offer a lower cost, encompassing all features, albeit without any reduction in ads. The second tier, priced higher, will provide users with an ad-free experience. However, Musk remained tight-lipped about further details regarding the subscription packages.
This development follows the platform’s recent experiment in New Zealand and the Philippines, where new users were charged $1 as part of a test phase. Those who opted against subscribing were restricted to “read-only” actions, such as reading posts, watching videos, and following accounts.
In a bid to combat spam, manipulation, and bot activity on the platform, X introduced the “Not A Bot” subscription method, emphasizing a commitment to maintaining a spam-free environment.
Two new tiers of X Premium subscriptions launching soon.
One is lower cost with all features, but no reduction in ads, and the other is more expensive, but has no ads.

Since Musk assumed control of the platform in October 2022, a whirlwind of changes has ensued, marked by mass layoffs and the dissolution of content moderation teams. This overhaul has resulted in a significant impact on revenue, with advertisers hesitating to place ads on the service.
Acknowledging the revenue challenges, Musk attributed the decline to activist pressure on advertisers. In response, he implemented a $8 per month subscription fee for the blue check service and initiated efforts to entice advertisers back to X by offering discounts.
The dynamic shifts under Musk’s leadership have sparked a wave of transformation on the platform, setting the stage for an exciting evolution in the realm of social media. As X prepares to roll out these new subscription tiers, users eagerly await more details on the enhanced features and benefits that come with each package.
