Youm-e-Takbeer Marks Pakistan’s Strength and National Unity, Says PM Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Youm-e-Takbeer represents a historic chapter in Pakistan’s journey and reflects the nation’s courage, unity and determination to protect its sovereignty.

In his message on May 28, 2026, the prime minister said Youm-e-Takbeer marks the day when Pakistan emerged as a nuclear power in response to India’s nuclear tests in 1998. He said the decision restored strategic balance in South Asia and sent a strong message that Pakistan would never compromise on its defence.

Shehbaz Sharif said the day proves that the country envisioned by Allama Muhammad Iqbal and founded by Muhammad Ali Jinnah remains secure and strong.

Paying tribute to the architects of the nuclear programme, the prime minister praised the leadership of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the role of Nawaz Sharif and the contributions of national heroes Abdul Qadeer Khan and Samar Mubarakmand. He also acknowledged the efforts of scientists, engineers, armed forces personnel and workers who strengthened the country’s defence.

The prime minister said India’s nuclear tests were driven by aggressive ambitions, while Pakistan responded with wisdom and resolve. He added that despite international pressure, threats of sanctions and economic challenges, Pakistan remained firm on protecting its freedom and dignity.

He described Youm-e-Takbeer as a symbol of national pride, sacrifice and unity. According to him, Pakistan’s nuclear capability continues to serve as a strong deterrent against hostile intentions.

Referring to recent tensions with India, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan showed unity and resilience during Maarka-e-Haq. He claimed India used the Pahalgam incident as an excuse to target civilians and mosques, but Pakistan’s armed forces and the nation responded together with determination.

The prime minister praised the leadership of Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar and Admiral Naveed Ashraf for their professionalism and leadership.

He said Pakistan does not seek aggression against any country but reserves the right to defend its homeland at all costs.

The prime minister also warned against hostile networks operating against Pakistan and said the country remains committed to eliminating threats to national security. He urged the nation to renew its commitment to unity, peace, stability and progress on this Youm-e-Takbeer.
