Zalmay briefs Afghan president about his reconciliation efforts


KABUL : The US Special Envoy for Afghan Peace Process Zalmay Khalilzad has discussed peace process with President Ashraf Ghani, a statement from Presidential Palace said on Sunday.
Khalilzad briefed the president on future plans and programmes regarding his second round of trip to regional countries during a meeting which was held on Saturday evening, the statement said.
According to Afghan media, the envoy said that he would share the outcome of his visits with the president after they concluded.
The president hailed the efforts of US special envoy for Afghan reconciliation process and said: “We welcome every step which could help Afghan owned and led peace process.”
Khalilzad is scheduled to travel to Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and Qatar to facilitate Afghan reconciliation process.
Khalilzad’s visits to regional countries happened at time when a multinational meeting on Afghan peace process had recently concluded in Moscow which was attended by the Taliban delegation as well.– Agencies
