At least 20 people have been killed and 22 others injured in a tragic accident when a bus en route from Rawalpindi to Hunza fell into a ditch early this morning near Gunar Farm in the Diamer area of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Rescue operations swiftly commenced, with teams mobilizing to the scene to aid the injured and retrieve the deceased. The injured were promptly transported to Chilas Regional Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment, where emergency measures were enacted to ensure timely care.
Diamer Deputy Commissioner Fayaz Ahmed confirmed the tragic death toll, revealing that among the victims were 17 men and three women. Additionally, three bodies and 21 injured individuals were transferred to the Regional Headquarters Hospital. Critically wounded patients were either referred to Gilgit via road or scheduled for helicopter transfer.
GB Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan conveyed profound sadness and sympathy, stressing the importance of immediate medical assistance and support for the affected families.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and issuing directives for comprehensive medical aid to the injured.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also conveyed condolences, expressing solidarity with the affected families and praying for the swift recovery of the injured. “Our thoughts are with the grieving families. May they find strength during this difficult time,” he conveyed.
