PESHAWAR: Pakistan Army’s Lt Col Khalid Ameer and three of his relatives, who were abducted by militants in Dera Ismail Khan on Thursday, have been safely returned home.
According to officials, Lt Col Ameer was at a mosque in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan to receive mourners after his father’s funeral. On Thursday, 12 to 15 armed men on motorbikes stormed the mosque and kidnapped Ameer along with his three brothers.
One of the brothers is a lieutenant colonel, another serves as an assistant commissioner at a Cantonment Board, and the third works for the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), as reported by senior police officer Aziz-ur-Rehman.
A video of Lt Col Ameer, which later went viral on social media, showed him in captivity, urging the government to meet the demands of the Pakistani Taliban. The exact demands of the militants were not disclosed.
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that the safe and unconditional release of Lt Col Ameer and his relatives was achieved thanks to the efforts of tribal elders and local notables. All the abducted individuals have now been safely returned to their homes.
