New evidence has emerged about foreign weapons being smuggled from Afghanistan into Pakistan.
On January 11, 2025, two major operations were carried out in the Dosali district of North Waziristan. During these operations, six Khawarij were eliminated, and two others were arrested. In another intelligence-based operation in the Isham area of North Waziristan, security forces killed three Khawarij and injured two more. From these terrorists, foreign weapons, ammunition, and explosives were seized.
The Pakistan Army has been engaged in a war against terrorism for the past two decades. During this time, terrorist activities originating from Afghanistan have surged. Terrorists frequently attempt to cross the Pak-Afghan border, targeting both security personnel and innocent civilians. According to sources, these terrorists have access to weapons abandoned by the United States in Afghanistan. This flow of foreign arms has severely affected regional security.
Earlier, on December 9, 2024, a significant operation took place in the Kalachi area of Dera Ismail Khan. Security forces neutralized two Khawarij and arrested one foreigner during this mission. A large stockpile of foreign-made weapons, ammunition, and explosives was also recovered.
Reports from the Pentagon reveal that the United States supplied 427,300 combat weapons to the Afghan army. At the time of the U.S. withdrawal, 300,000 of these weapons remained in Afghanistan. Furthermore, the U.S. had provided equipment worth $18.6 billion to the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.
This influx of international weapons has empowered terrorists and destabilized the region. Pakistan continues its unwavering fight to safeguard its borders and ensure the safety of its citizens.
