PESHAWAR: Asfandyar Wali Khan, the Chief of Awami National Party (ANP), has decided not to contest the upcoming February elections.
ANP has officially confirmed Asfandyar Wali’s decision to abstain from the election. The party stated that his withdrawal is attributed to health issues. However, Asfandyar’s son, Aimal Wali Khan, will step in and participate in the elections on his behalf.
In the 2018 general elections, Asfandyar Wali Khan contested the NA-24 constituency, Charasadda-11, but faced defeat against PTI’s Fazal Muhammad Khan with a margin of 24,000 votes. Meanwhile, Aimal Wali Khan, supported by all PDM parties, lost the same constituency to PTI Founder Chairman Imran Khan in the 2022 general elections.
Aimal Wali Khan, who lost his provincial assembly seat in the 2018 general elections, is set to contest for this constituency.
