PESHAWAR: Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azam Khan, passed away in Peshawar on Saturday.
Azam Khan had been ill and had a severe stomach infection. He was admitted last night after stomach infection and was under treatment at the Rehman Medical Institute when he succumbed to a heart attack.
His funeral prayer will be held at 3:30 pm at hometown Prang, Charsadda.
He hailed from Charsadda and was retired bureaucrat and held prominent positions, serving as the secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources in Islamabad. Additionally, he served as the chief secretary in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from September 1990 to July 1993. He also served as finance minister in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He was appointed as caretaker chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in January 2023 after then the chief minister Mehmood Khan and leader of the opposition, Akram Khan Durrani, agreed to nominate the former bureaucrat for the CM slot.
