GILGIT: At least 8 passengers were martyred and 26 others sustained injuries in Chilas bus attack by unknown attackers on Saturday.
The unfortunate incident occurred at 6:30 pm in Hudur Pari area of Chilas Diamer Division, Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to Deputy Commissioner Diamer, unidentified attackers opened indiscriminate firing upon a passenger bus traveling along the Karakoram Highway in the Hudur Pari area of Chilas, killing eight people were killed and 26 others wounded as a result.
The victims, including women and children, were swiftly transported to the Regional Headquarters Hospital in Chilas for medical attention.
The bus, en route from Ghazar district to Rawalpindi, fell victim to the gunfire near Hudur, leading to casualties that include identified individuals such as Abdul Qayyum, Muhammad Naseer, Kamal Abbas, Aurangzeb, and Mir Alam. Additionally, three individuals remain unidentified. The injured, named as Shakur Jan, Mazhar, Shabir, Noor Begum, Taj Begum, Islam Gul, Maaz Khan, Safar Ali, Muhammad Ali, Rahmat Jan, Shakeel Ahmed, Nazir, Muhammad Hussain, Muhammad Altaf, Muzamil Ali, and Fida Karim, were taken to the hospital.
DC said that the victims belongs to Chilas, Peshawar and Kohistan.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants utilized heavy weaponry, resulting in a fire on the bus.
SP Diamer Muhammad Ayaz confirmed the incident and said that preliminary investigations are underway.
