RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s military leadership has cautioned that any attempt to stir unrest or recreate a May 9-like situation will be met with decisive force under the law, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The message came out of the 277th Corps Commanders Conference, held on Friday at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir chaired the session.
Firm Message on Domestic Security
An ISPR statement said the forum assessed the current security environment. Participants resolved that any effort to cause agitation or a May 9-like situation, whatever the pretext, would be handled firmly within the rule of law, without hesitation or discrimination.
Stance on Terrorism From Afghanistan
On the regional front, the conference restated Pakistan’s right to self-defence and to take targeted action against terrorism originating from Afghan territory.
The forum said the Taliban leadership, which it accused of enabling terrorism on India’s behalf, must bear responsibility for the consequences.
Kashmir Position Reiterated
Turning to Kashmir, the participants repeated Pakistan’s long-held position on Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). They backed a settlement of the dispute in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
Munir Directs Commanders to Boost Readiness
In his closing remarks, Field Marshal Munir praised the commanders for their operational preparedness. He instructed them to further strengthen intelligence-based operations and build up combat capability through modern technology, training and multi-domain integration.
He voiced confidence that the armed forces remain fully ready to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security. The Corps Commanders Conference also offered Fateha for martyrs of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civil society.
Support for Saudi Arabia and the Makkah Defence Alliance
On international matters, the forum welcomed the signing of the Makkah Defence Alliance between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
The military leadership also condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, expressed solidarity with the Kingdom and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain.
Background: Rising Saudi-Houthi Tensions
The statement followed a fresh escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis after new cross-border attacks. The group has carried out repeated missile and drone strikes on the Kingdom since announcing a naval blockade in July.
The Houthis have also targeted Saudi-linked vessels in the Red Sea. Saudi airports, energy facilities and other strategic infrastructure have been hit as well, though the Kingdom’s air defence systems intercepted many of the projectiles.
