Islamabad: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has alleged that PTI’s Imran Khan and former intelligence officer Faiz Hameed were deeply involved in political maneuvering and manipulation.
Speaking to the media outside Parliament, Asif claimed that Faiz Hameed played a key role in bringing Imran Khan to power. Their collaboration reportedly began before the 2018 elections and extended to events like the May 9 unrest. He hinted that new evidence could lead to significant developments.
Asif accused Faiz Hameed of providing substantial support to PTI during the 2018 elections and in securing the Senate chairmanship. He stated that their actions included suppressing political rivals and exploiting state resources. He further alleged that civilians were tried in military courts during PTI’s tenure.
The minister questioned why PTI leaders remain silent on the sacrifices of security personnel. He also accused the PTI founder and his wife of being involved in corrupt dealings with a major business tycoon.
Addressing Parliament earlier, Khawaja Asif highlighted internal divisions within PTI. He referred to Bushra Bibi’s statement about being abandoned by her people and criticized the party’s failed attempts to rally at D-Chowk. He also mentioned an incident where Ali Amin Gandapur’s guards allegedly opened fire on PTI workers.
Asif criticized the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for failing to maintain peace in the province. Instead, the CM allegedly focused on an attack on Islamabad, which ended in failure for the third time.
He accused PTI of playing provincial politics and reminded that Imran Khan’s call for civil disobedience 10 years ago had gone unheeded. Asif added that no Pakistani today would refuse to pay utility bills or stop sending remittances to their families.
