Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry reaffirmed the military’s unwavering stance on the violent May 9 protests, emphasizing that those involved in the riots must be held accountable.
Speaking at Rawalpindi’s General Headquarters (GHQ), Lt Gen Chaudhry reiterated that the military’s position, initially stated on May 7, remains unchanged.
In his briefing on national security, the military spokesperson highlighted the significant progress made in anti-terrorism efforts.
So far this year, the armed forces and law enforcement agencies have conducted 23,622 intelligence-based operations (IBOs), with 2,045 carried out in the past 15 days, resulting in the elimination of 24 terrorists.
He mentioned that over 100 IBOs are being conducted daily across the country.
Addressing the government’s recent declaration of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” Lt Gen Chaudhry emphasized that the militant group has no connection with Islam and that the military’s focus remains on eradicating terrorism, particularly in the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The DG ISPR also underscored the military’s contributions to education, particularly in Balochistan, where 92 schools are operational, providing education to 19,000 students.
Additionally, the army has established 171 schools and three cadet colleges in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
The Pakistan Army is also prioritizing health, clean water, and infrastructure development in Balochistan, including road and bridge projects and a date processing initiative in Panjgur supported by the UAE.
