ISLAMABAD: The accountability court took pivotal actions in two separate cases involving former president Asif Ali Zardari. On Thursday, the honorable Judge Muhammad Bashir presided over a hearing in the Park Lane reference case.
During these proceedings, the legal representative asserted that Asif Zardari had not held the position of director at Park Lane at the time when the agreement in question was executed.
This led to a consequential decision by the court to summon Asif Zardari and other individuals connected to the Park Lane case. Consequently, the hearing was adjourned and rescheduled for December 20.
A day earlier, on Wednesday, a separate accountability court in the federal capital delved into the Thatta Water Supply project case.
Judge Muhammad Bashir oversaw the proceedings and issued notices to the former president and other relevant parties, directing them to appear before the Islamabad bureau on December 18.
It’s noteworthy that a corruption reference against Asif Ali Zardari, who also holds the position of co-chair within the PPP, had previously been returned to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in January.
This action took place following a legal process within an accountability court situated in the nation’s capital, where Judge Rana Nasir Javed listened to arguments from both sides before delivering a reserved verdict.
The judge’s ruling was influenced by changes in the NAB laws, leading to the determination that the corruption reference was beyond the jurisdiction of the accountability court, marking a significant turning point in the case.
