KHYBER: The funeral prayer for two policemen and a passerby who were martyred in a terrorist attack on a checkpost was offered in Landi Kotal, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday.
Officers of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, FC, locals, and members of civil society attended the funeral prayer for the martyred cops at Landi Kotal Tatara ground.
A team of armed police saluted the bodies of the martyrs and placed flowers on them.
Later, the bodies of the martyred cops were transported to their native hometowns, where they will be laid to rest with full honors.
Unknown armed assailants had attacked a police checkpost near Charwazgai post in the Landi Kotal area of the Khyber tribal district.
The police spokesperson said that as a result of the firing, two cops identified as Alamzeb and Sher Alam, along with one passerby, were killed, and two others sustained injuries.
The injured policeman and passerby were taken to the Hayatabad Medical Complex where they are being treated.
Earlier, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the Railway Police and porters at Mardan Railway Station, resulting in the martyrdom of two police constables and injuring one.
Four porters were also injured in the exchange of fire, and several others were arrested.
According to the police, the incident took place due to a dispute over the lease at the railway station. The railway authorities had sealed the mall the previous day, leading to tensions between the two groups.
In a separate incident, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ijaz Khan was martyred while three other officials, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), sustained injuries during an encounter with terrorists in Mardan’s Zada Mata area, police said.
The encounter erupted as law enforcement agencies engaged in a fierce exchange of fire with terrorists, leading to the martyrdom of SP Ijaz Khan.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) spokesman confirmed the incident, adding that the brave SP fell victim to the terrorists’ indiscriminate firing.
