Jamshoro: Ayaz Latif Palijo, the leader of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), voiced strong concerns over fraudulent elections in Sindh during a sit-in in Jamshoro.
Accusing the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of deceiving the people of Sindh, Palijo asserted that the general election had been handed to the PPP on a silver platter, undermining the hopes of the electorate.
Palijo lamented the absence of honest representation in the Sindh Assembly, at the federal level, and in Parliament, claiming that sincere individuals had no place in these political arenas.
He emphasized the historical role played by Sindh’s politicians during challenging times for Pakistan but expressed dissatisfaction that Sindh had been excluded from the national political agenda for 15 years.
The GDA leader contended that statements against corruption were mere rhetoric, with the federation showing indifference to governance, prosperity, and merit in Sindh.
Palijo accused the PPP of turning Sindh into a mere railway station where decision-making trains never stopped.
He decried the degradation of the education system in Sindh, emphasizing that the province had been treated as a sacrificial goat.
Palijo urged an end to the manipulation of the country’s future, rejecting the election results and demanding a fair and transparent re-election.
Fahmida Mirza, another GDA leader, echoed Palijo’s sentiments, declaring that Sindh had been “sold” in both the 2018 and 2024 elections.
Addressing the sit-in, Mirza asserted that the participants were motivated by passion, not financial gain, and claimed that the elections were marred not only by rigging but also by the usurpation of people’s rights.
Mirza called for the application of Article 6 against those responsible for infringing on people’s rights and demanded transparency regarding the cost paid for such actions.
She vowed that the people of Sindh would not remain silent until their rights were restored and called for the alliance of parties in Sindh that felt cheated, advocating for genuine democracy.
Mirza congratulated the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for their steadfastness and declared continued efforts to struggle for democracy, expressing non-acceptance of the current election commission and electoral process.
