ISLAMABAD: Power consumers are likely to see a significant tariff increase of Rs 3.49 per unit due to the fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for April 2024. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), representing power distribution companies (DISCOs), has submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for this increase.
NEPRA has scheduled a public hearing on May 30, 2024, to discuss this request. If approved, the adjustment will be reflected in consumers’ June bills.
According to the CPPA’s request, no electricity was generated from furnace oil or diesel in April. Instead, 22.96 percent of electricity came from hydropower, and 10.19 percent from local coal sources. Domestic gas was a major contributor, accounting for 24.97 percent of the electricity generated, while imported LNG contributed 11.28 percent. Additionally, nuclear fuel accounted for 23.64 percent of the power generated in April.
