Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga has stepped down as the captain of the national T20I team following the World Cup disappointment.
Hasaranga resigned from his role after Sri Lanka’s early exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The spinner, who was appointed T20I captain last year, led the team in 10 matches.
In a statement released by Sri Lankan Cricket, Hasaranga explained that his decision to step down was in the best interest of the team. He emphasized his continued dedication to contributing as a player.
“Sri Lanka will always have my utmost best efforts as a player, and I will support and stand by my team and leadership as always,” Hasaranga wrote in his resignation letter to SLC.
