Murree: Continuous and heavy snowfall in Murree has severely disrupted daily life, leaving thousands of tourists stranded as weather conditions worsened overnight.
The intensity of snowfall increased late last night, prompting authorities to deploy additional staff and snow-clearing machinery. According to the district administration, efforts are under way to safely evacuate around 5,000 tourists from the hill station.
Speaking to the media, DPO Murree said visibility on roads has dropped sharply due to the snowstorm, while weather conditions continue to deteriorate. He added that all major roads are currently open and traffic is moving, but snowfall and rain are expected to continue until late tonight.
Punjab’s Minister for Communications, Malik Sohaib Bharth, said Murree’s roads remain functional and that all Punjab government departments are on high alert. He confirmed that heavy machinery is already present in the field to keep routes open.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that intermittent snowfall continues in Murree. Over the past 24 hours, 12 inches of snow has been recorded, while further rain and snowfall are likely in Murree and the Galiyat region over the next two to three hours.
Authorities have advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and follow safety instructions amid the worsening weather.
