Islamabad: Severe snowfall in Pakistan’s upper regions has disrupted daily life, blocking roads and stranding hundreds of people, prompting large-scale rescue operations by the Pakistan Army and emergency services.
Several feet of snow have fallen across upper areas, cutting off road links and isolating communities. Heavy snowfall was reported in Neelum Valley, Sudhanoti, Bagh, Hattian Bala, Athmuqam, Upper Neelum, and other high-altitude areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
In Haveli district, around 25 vehicles, including ambulances, were stranded due to snow-covered roads. The Pakistan Army successfully rescued 32 passengers, while nearly 100 people remained stuck in vehicles at various locations.
After many years, Muzaffarabad witnessed snowfall, while Murree broke a 20-year snowfall record. In Neelum Valley, intense snowfall caused the collapse of three houses, adding to the damage.
Key highways were blocked due to snowfall and landslides, with clearance operations underway. In Tirah Valley, rescue teams continue relief efforts following heavy snow.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, more than 1,100 affected people have been safely evacuated so far, while over 120 stranded vehicles have been pulled out using emergency vehicles and heavy machinery.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has issued an advisory warning of severe weather conditions. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, intermittent snowfall continues, and authorities have closed tourist entry to Kaghan Valley after roads were blocked.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more rain and snowfall in upper regions from tomorrow, urging citizens and tourists to remain cautious.
