BEIRUT: Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s final message was posted on his social media account on X before he was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. In his last post, he wrote, “I may not stay among you for a long time. Procedures have been devised so that we are prepared.”
On Saturday, Hezbollah confirmed Nasrallah’s death and vowed to continue their struggle against Israel. Earlier, Israel announced that it had targeted and killed the Hezbollah leader in an airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut, marking a significant blow to the group amid ongoing Israeli attacks.
Following recent airstrikes in Gaza and Lebanon, Nasrallah had pledged to “punish” Israel and defeat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. The airstrike on Dahiyeh rattled Beirut, with a security source reporting that the attack produced a series of powerful blasts that left a crater at least 20 meters deep.
In the aftermath, thousands of residents have fled the area, gathering in squares, parks, and along the seaside in downtown Beirut.
Reflecting on past losses, Nasrallah quoted his response to the 1992 assassination of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Abbas Mussawi: “They sought to kill our spirit of resistance. But his blood will continue to simmer in our veins, strengthening our determination and intensifying our enthusiasm to pursue his path.”
In his last address to followers, Nasrallah reiterated, “Even if we are all martyred, even if our homes are destroyed over our heads, we will never abandon the option of Islamic resistance.”
