JHELUM: Jhelum police have taken disciplinary action against three officers for their alleged involvement in facilitating the escape of a British national accused of fraud. The officers are also accused of physically assaulting the detainee.
The incident began with a complaint filed by Hassan Butt against Shoaib Ahmad, a British citizen, at the City police station. Butt claimed that Ahmad had rented a car from him but instead of returning it, he had sold it in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, Ahmad and his associates were accused of removing the car’s tracking devices, with video evidence supporting this claim.
Subsequently, the police took Ahmad into custody and brought him to ASI Tanveer’s room at the police station. A video recording of the incident shows the officers brutally assaulting the detainee while he was on the floor.
Hassan Butt alleged that not only did the police officers strike a deal with Ahmad, but they also personally escorted him to the airport, allowing him to leave the country. Furthermore, it is claimed that the police only filed a case against Ahmad for car theft once he had safely left the country.
In response to these serious allegations, the District Police Officer (DPO) of Jhelum took immediate action by suspending the three officers involved. Additionally, he established a special team led by the Superintendent of Police (SP) for investigation into the matter.
