PESHAWAR: An urgent session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly meeting convened today in response to the recent arrests of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders.
The session, initially planned for September 23, has been rescheduled to 3 pm on Tuesday following the detainment of several PTI figures, including Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
The KP Assembly is expected to adopt a resolution condemning the recent arrests. On Monday, Islamabad police arrested PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan outside the National Assembly, shortly after detaining PTI MNA Sher Afzal and leader Shoaib Shaheen.
The arrests are related to alleged violations of laws during a PTI public gathering in Islamabad on September 8. Sources indicate that Sher Afzal Marwat will be held at Kohsar police station.
Additional arrests are anticipated, with opposition leaders such as Omar Ayub and Zartaj Gul reportedly under scrutiny, as law enforcement awaits the departure of other PTI members from the National Assembly.
