PESHAWAR: At least 12 members of a family, including children and women were killed when a massive landslide triggered by heavy monsoon rain hit a house in northwestern Pakistan on Friday, officials said.
According to local police authorities, the tragic incident took place in the Patrak area of Upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The landslide struck near Patrak, leading to the collapse of a residential house belonging to Muhammad Ali. The tragic incident claimed the lives of 12 people that include 9 children, two women, and a men.
The rescuers of rescue 1122 and locals people quickly arrived at the scene and retrieved all 12 bodies from the debris and sent to the hospital for medico-legal formalities.
The victims were trapped under the rubble, and the rescue operation proved to be extremely challenging.
Pakistan has been hit by heavy monsoon rains in recent days. Pakistan’s annual monsoon season runs from July through September.
Meanwhile, a fresh wave of monsoon rains is sweeping across Pakistan. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning of additional rainfall in the coastal regions of Sindh over the next 24 hours.
The NDMA has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the open sea for the next 48 hours due to severe weather conditions. Rainfall is expected in various areas, including Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allah Yar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
