Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur held a meeting with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Peshawar. The discussion focused on the law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with an emphasis on restoring peace in Kurram.
The Federal Interior Minister was warmly welcomed by the Chief Minister at the Chief Minister’s Office. During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi assured full cooperation to improve security across the province. He pledged support to strengthen the capacity of law enforcement agencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Interior Minister Naqvi emphasized that peace in Kurram remains a top priority. He stressed the need for sustainable peace through consultations with all stakeholders. He acknowledged the sacrifices of martyrs, calling them an invaluable asset and a source of pride.
Chief Minister Gandapur echoed these sentiments. He said the sacrifices of the martyrs are unforgettable. He vowed to continue the fight against terrorism with unity and determination.
The situation in Kurram district remains dire. Roads are blocked, leading to shortages of food, gas, and daily essentials. All shops, including restaurants and tandoors, are closed. Scholars in Kurram have strongly criticized provincial information advisor Barrister Saif for misrepresenting the situation. He had labeled reports of children’s deaths as fake news.
During an emergency press conference in Parachinar, scholars Allama Noor Hussain Najafi, Allama Khial Hussain, Allama Syed Safdar Ali Shah, Allama Iran Ali, and Allama Muhammad Hussain Taheri condemned these statements. They highlighted the death of 54 patients, including 29 children, due to a lack of treatment. Severe food shortages have left many residents starving.
The crisis has worsened with ongoing road and border closures. Incidents of firing and clashes involving passenger vehicles have escalated tensions. Deputy Commissioner Kurram, Javedullah Mehsud, revealed that a Grand Jirga in Kohat has been working on a resolution for two weeks. He expressed hope that the jirga would reach a final decision soon. Steps to normalize the situation, including reopening transportation, are expected to follow.
Efforts to address the Kurram crisis are underway, but challenges remain. The provincial government and local leaders aim to find sustainable solutions to restore peace in the district.
