LAHORE: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been elected unopposed as the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Rana Sanaullah, the party’s chief election commissioner, released the final list of candidates, indicating that Nawaz Sharif was the sole contender for the top post. Consequently, Sharif’s election as president of the PML-N is now a formality, pending the official announcement and ratification by the party’s General Council.
Sharif had lost the PML-N presidency six years ago due to a Supreme Court decision related to the Panama Papers case.
The party’s five-member election commission, led by Rana Sanaullah and including Iqbal Jhagra, Ishrat Ashraf, Jamal Shah Kakar, and Khealdas Kohistani, supervised the elections. No other candidates submitted nomination papers against Nawaz Sharif.
