Islamabad: The Accountability Court approved bail for Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and a former Prime Minister, in the Toshakhana case. This case was heard by Judge Muhammad Bashir at the Accountability Court.
Nawaz Sharif, along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and a legal team, appeared in the court for the proceedings. Notably, several other prominent PML-N leaders, including Ahsan Iqbal, Hanif Abbasi, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, and Khil Das, were also present in the courtroom.
Within the court, PML-N leader Tariq Fazal Chaudhary was appointed as a surety for Nawaz Sharif.
The court granted bail to Nawaz Sharif in the Toshakhana case, and this bail was secured with a surety bond amounting to Rs1 million. The court also adjourned the hearing of this case until November 20. During the next hearing, copies of the case would be distributed.
Additionally, it was noted that cases related to the restoration of appeals against sentences in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references would be heard at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in due course.
Before the formal hearing, Nawaz Sharif’s legal representative requested additional time for his appearance, and the court agreed, setting a 1:30 p.m. deadline for his appearance.
Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer filed three petitions during the proceedings. These petitions included requests for the release of Nawaz Sharif’s attached property in the Toshakhana reference, the appointment of a pleader, and the submission of the bail bonds.
Stringent security measures were implemented outside the accountability court, allowing only relevant lawyers and journalists to enter the premises.
It’s essential to mention that in a previous hearing, the accountability court had temporarily suspended Nawaz Sharif’s arrest warrant until October 24.
