ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is hosting the 23rd Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Council Meeting today. In honor of the attending dignitaries, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will host a formal dinner this evening.
The Foreign Office has shared details of the event, with the official opening of the summit scheduled for tomorrow (October 16) at the Jinnah Convention Center. Prime Minister Sharif will personally greet the foreign leaders and their delegations upon arrival, followed by a reception and a group photo to commemorate the gathering.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang will also meet with Pakistan’s military leadership during his visit.
The summit will officially begin with an address from PM Sharif, setting the agenda for the discussions. Each head of delegation will then address the conference, covering key topics outlined for the meeting. Afterward, member states are expected to sign significant documents formalizing various agreements.
Concluding the summit, PM Sharif will offer closing remarks. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and SCO Secretary-General Ambassador Zhang Ming will later address the media to provide a summary of the outcomes. A luncheon hosted by PM Sharif for the participants will take place the following day.
In light of the summit, extensive security measures have been implemented across Islamabad. Key routes around the red zone, including Park Road, Bani Gala, and Rawal Dam Chowk, are temporarily closed, as well as sections of Faisal Avenue and Srinagar Highway, to ensure the safety of all attendees.
