Pakistan has singed a groundbreaking export deal between Pakistan and Azerbaijan has been inked, marking the largest agreement of its kind in Pakistani history, reported by Azernews. The move underscores the two nations’ commitment to bolstering their defense cooperation.
While Pakistani authorities have yet to comment on the specifics of the deal, it surpasses even Pakistan’s recent receipt of a $700 million tranche from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to reports from Azerbaijan, the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) has sealed the deal with the Azerbaijan Air Force for the purchase of JF-17C Block-III fighter jets, amounting to a staggering $1.6 billion.
The PAC, renowned for its expertise in aircraft maintenance, comprises four interconnected factories dedicated to ensuring the operational readiness of the Pakistan Air Force. Its extensive engineering capabilities encompass aircraft structure overhaul, component maintenance, engine refurbishment, and radar/avionics servicing.
Established in 1971, the PAC emerged in response to the significant foreign exchange outflows incurred from outsourcing aircraft maintenance abroad. Over the years, it has evolved into a hub of multifaceted engineering prowess.
Moreover, the PAC has collaborated with companies from Turkey and China in manufacturing ventures, extending its reach to countries such as Myanmar, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The agreement further solidifies the enduring bond between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, with both countries committing to bolstering bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including energy, trade, and aviation. Discussions on enhancing these ties took place during a meeting between former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev at Zugulba Palace in June 2023.
