Pakistan and the Republic of Korea successfully hosted the two-day United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Conference in Islamabad.
The event attracted senior military officials, top government representatives, and prominent United Nations delegates from Pakistan and various other nations.
Among the distinguished attendees were the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support. Delegates from the 157-member UN Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations were also present.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar underlined the significance of the gathering. He described it as “a vital step towards global peace.” He stressed the need for collective actions to achieve sustainable global peace.
“Pakistan UN Peacekeeping efforts have been instrumental on the international stage,” Dar remarked. “So far, more than 235,000 Pakistani peacekeepers have served in UN missions worldwide.”
The foreign minister also honored the sacrifices made by Pakistani troops. He paid tribute to the 181 Pakistani peacekeepers who laid down their lives while serving for peace. Dar praised their dedication and contributions to global stability.
During his speech, Dar firmly reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding position on Kashmir. He emphasized that lasting peace and stability would remain incomplete without resolving the Kashmir conflict. He urged the United Nations to fulfill its resolutions regarding the issue.
“Pakistan UN Peacekeeping will always support the peaceful settlement of Kashmir,” he asserted confidently.
Dar also highlighted new challenges faced by UN peacekeeping operations. He identified the spread of misinformation as a growing threat to global peace efforts.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter. Dar emphasized that Pakistan would continue to champion peace, stability, and security worldwide through its Pakistan UN Peacekeeping missions.
The conference in Islamabad demonstrated Pakistan’s leadership and unwavering dedication to global harmony. The collaboration between Pakistan and South Korea set a remarkable example for future peacekeeping initiatives.
