A high-level US congressional delegation visited Pakistan and met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir. The delegation included Congressmen Jack Bergman, Thomas Souzzi, and Jonathan Jackson. The discussions centered on Pakistan-US relations, with a strong focus on regional security and defense cooperation.
According to a press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), both sides agreed on the value of ongoing engagement. They stressed the importance of mutual respect, shared democratic values, and aligned strategic interests. The US lawmakers appreciated the efforts of Pakistan’s armed forces in the fight against terrorism.
The congressmen also praised Pakistan’s long-standing role in maintaining regional peace. They highlighted the strength and potential of the Pakistani people. The delegation underscored their respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty and emphasized the need to expand bilateral ties.
The visiting lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-US relations. They expressed a desire to improve cooperation in security, trade, investment, and economic development. These areas, they said, are essential for building a stronger partnership.
General Munir thanked the delegation for their visit. He said that Pakistan values its relationship with the United States. He emphasized Pakistan’s intention to broaden and deepen this relationship, ensuring it remains beneficial and respectful to both nations’ interests.
During the meeting, both sides signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs). These agreements are aimed at promoting training and collaboration in the field of information technology.
Before meeting the COAS, the delegation also held a detailed meeting with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad. Naqvi spoke about Pakistan’s vital role in the war against terror. He said, “Pakistan stands as a wall between terrorism and the rest of the world.”
The talks also covered key areas such as security, border management, and counterterrorism. Naqvi labeled terrorism a global issue and called for greater international cooperation. He said intelligence and technology sharing were crucial in this fight.
He reminded the delegation of Pakistan’s unmatched sacrifices in its battle against extremism. The minister expressed hope that the visit of US lawmakers would shed more light on Pakistan’s significant contribution in this regard.
Naqvi also welcomed the delegation’s participation in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025. He assured that investors would be provided with full security and all possible support from the government.
He reiterated that strong and long-term Pakistan-US relations were central to the country’s foreign policy. He called the upcoming Pakistan Caucus meeting in the US, set for April 30, a positive development.
The US delegation agreed that Pakistan’s role in fighting terrorism needs global recognition. They also praised the Pakistani-American community, calling them talented and hardworking.
The entire visit reinforced the shared interest in building strategic partnerships. Pakistan-US relations continue to evolve through dialogue, mutual trust, and joint efforts in security and development.
