Islamabad: Pakistan is making efforts to secure the safe return of Pakistani citizens held by Somali pirates, the Foreign Office said during its weekly media briefing.
Foreign Office spokesperson stated that 10 Pakistani nationals are currently being held by Somali pirates. He said Pakistan remains in contact with the Somali government and is actively pursuing measures to ensure the safe release and return of the hostages.
The spokesperson emphasized that the government is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to bringing the affected citizens back home safely.
Pakistan Reaffirms Position on Indus Waters Treaty
During the briefing, the Foreign Office also reiterated Pakistan’s stance on the Indus Waters Treaty. The spokesperson said that any attempt to stop or restrict water flow under the treaty would be a violation of international law and international agreements.
He warned that if India takes such a step, Pakistan has all available options to protect its national interests.
The spokesperson further stated that Pakistan remains firmly committed to its position regarding the treaty and considers any obstruction of water flow a breach of international obligations.
No Change in Pakistan’s Position on Palestine
Commenting on the Abraham Accords, the Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan’s policy remains unchanged.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for an independent and sovereign Palestinian state and reiterated continued support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
Efforts Underway for Release of Pakistani Citizen Detained by India
The spokesperson also confirmed that a resident of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, identified as Zeeshan, was detained by Indian forces along the Line of Control (LoC).
He said Pakistan’s High Commission is in contact with Indian authorities and is making efforts to secure his release.
The Foreign Office emphasized that Pakistan will continue to safeguard the rights and interests of its citizens both at home and abroad.
