Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has introduced the Ramadan Package, offering financial assistance to low-income households across Pakistan. The initiative will support 4 million families, benefitting around 20 million individuals. Each eligible household will receive Rs 5,000 through a digital wallet.
Speaking at the launch event in the federal capital, PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude, highlighting that inflation during this Ramadan is lower than in previous years. He revealed that the government has allocated Rs 20 billion for the Ramadan Package, ensuring relief for millions.
The Prime Minister noted that last year’s allocation was Rs 7 billion, but this time, the budget has increased by 200%, reaching Rs 20 billion. He emphasized the government’s commitment to easing financial burdens during the holy month.
Punjab Government’s Ramadan Relief Plan
Earlier in February, the Punjab government introduced the “Nigehban Ramazan” initiative. This program supports 3 million deserving families, each receiving Rs 10,000 in assistance. Distribution began on February 25, facilitated by Pakistan Post.
To ensure smooth delivery, the Bank of Punjab (BoP) in Lahore is issuing 500,000 pay orders daily. These are sent as insured letters to eligible recipients across Punjab. Pakistan Post’s Director-General, Sami Ullah Khan, is overseeing the entire process, ensuring efficient distribution.
To prevent disruptions, the Punjab government has temporarily banned leave and transfers of postal staff until the program’s completion.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Relief Program
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has also launched Ramadan and Eid relief packages for underprivileged families. Barrister Saif, Special Assistant to the Information Minister, confirmed that over one million families will benefit from this initiative. Each eligible household will receive Rs 10,000 in aid.
The funds will be disbursed through banks and EasyPaisa. The provincial government will cover all transaction fees, ensuring that recipients receive the full amount. The financial support will be transferred before the 15th of Ramadan.
Ramadan Moon Sighting Announcement
Meanwhile, the Ramadan moon for the 1446 Hijri year was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, held a meeting in Peshawar on Friday. After the session, officials announced that the first fast (roza) will be observed on Sunday, March 2.
Zonal moon-sighting committees also gathered across the country, with representatives from the Meteorological Department and SUPARCO present.
The Ramadan Package and various relief programs reflect the government’s effort to support low-income families during this holy month. With substantial financial aid, millions across Pakistan will receive much-needed assistance to help them observe Ramadan with ease.
