ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) issued a demand on Saturday for the immediate dismissal of the chief secretaries of Punjab and Sindh provinces, along with the police heads of both regions, accusing them of aiding in the theft of the people’s mandate.
The PTI’s central media department stated that the party’s senior leadership had called for the removal of these four officials, alleging their involvement in undermining democracy and fostering lawlessness in their respective provinces.
The party leadership insisted on holding these officials “firmly accountable” for their actions.
This demand arose following allegations made by Commissioner Rawalpindi, Liaqat Ali Chattha, who claimed that winning candidates in the February 8 elections were unjustly made to lose constituencies under his supervision.
Earlier in the day, PTI organized protest rallies in several cities across the country, including Islamabad and Lahore, protesting against alleged manipulation of the recent general election results.
In Lahore, police cracked down on the rally, leading to the arrest of numerous protesters, including PTI-backed independent candidate for NA-128, lawyer Salman Akram Raja, as well as several women. Raja, as the police detained him, asserted his solidarity with the people of Pakistan. However, he was later released.
Men, women, and a significant number of young participants joined the protest rallies.
In Islamabad, PTI’s Sher Afzal Marwat led the rally, commencing from F-9 Park and concluding outside the National Press Club.
