Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has called a meeting of the provincial cabinet today, with the PTI long march toward Islamabad now in its fourth day. Afridi will preside over the session.
Sources said the cabinet is expected to take up matters related to the provincial government. The agenda is due to be circulated this morning.
PTI Convoy Reaches Mattani Near Peshawar
The PTI convoy under Afridi’s leadership arrived at Mattani, on the outskirts of Peshawar, late on Tuesday after setting out from Kohat. From there, it is expected to move toward Khyber before continuing to Peshawar, as the party has altered its original route.
Afridi said the new route was a deliberate part of PTI’s strategy. He compared the protest to a “Test match,” adding that many stages were still ahead.
What Comes Next for the March Toward Islamabad
According to the party, the convoy is due to reach Khairabad, which lies on the Punjab border, on October 8. Afridi is expected to announce the next course of action at that point.
Why the PTI Long March Began
The march started from Lakki Marwat on October 4, after negotiations between the federal government and PTI failed to bridge their differences. Talks collapsed largely over security policy in KP.
The federal government wanted cooperation on counterterrorism measures in the province. PTI, for its part, asked for a jointly agreed approach to security operations there.
