PESHAWAR: Mian Aslam Iqbal, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for Chief Minister of Punjab, was granted bail by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday.
Gohar Ali Khan, following approval from PTI founder Imran Khan, announced Mian Aslam’s candidacy for the Chief Minister of Punjab position.
Earlier in the day, Mian Aslam Iqbal, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, sought transit bail from the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
The plea, filed by Mian Aslam Iqbal, cited that he is implicated in 19 different cases and requested the court to grant him transit bail.
The PTI candidate for Chief Minister of Punjab, Mian Aslam, was also among those declared absconders in the May 9 case, along with other PTI leaders.
In relation to the incidents on May 9, 2023, an anti-terrorism court in Lahore labeled 11 PTI candidates, including Mian Aslam Iqbal, as absconders. The incidents involved violent clashes and protests erupting nationwide following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The protests, triggered by Imran Khan’s arrest, saw widespread agitation among PTI workers across Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad, prompting authorities to deploy armed forces to maintain law and order.
During the protests, PTI workers targeted military installations, including the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore, resulting in significant unrest.
