Punjab Police successfully thwarted a major terrorist attack in Dera Ghazi Khan early this morning. A group of 15 to 20 armed militants launched an assault on a police checkpoint using heavy weapons, including rocket launchers.
Police forces responded swiftly, using advanced thermal imaging to detect the attackers. Officers engaged them with machine guns and mortars, preventing them from getting close to the checkpoint. Initial reports suggest significant casualties among the assailants.
Inspector General of Punjab Police, Usman Anwar, praised the officers for their courage. He stated that this marks the 19th successful counteroperation by Punjab Police against militants. He reaffirmed the force’s commitment to eliminating threats and ensuring public safety.
This was the second major terrorist attack in the area within six days. The previous assault targeted the Lakhani checkpoint on the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. Security personnel successfully repelled that attack as well, demonstrating their readiness to confront any threat.
