The Quad alliance—comprising the United States, India, Japan, and Australia—has urged swift justice after the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which killed 26 tourists. In a joint statement released from Washington on Tuesday, the group condemned the violence and demanded immediate action against those responsible.
The Pahalgam attack occurred on April 22. It led to a surge in hostilities between Pakistan and India, both nuclear-armed nations. India quickly pointed fingers at Pakistan, although no evidence was presented. In response, Pakistan firmly denied any involvement. Islamabad instead called for an impartial international probe into the incident.
The United States State Department shared the joint declaration issued by the foreign ministers of the Quad nations. The ministers refrained from directly blaming Pakistan or even mentioning its name. Still, their message was firm.
“The Quad strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms, including acts of violent extremism and cross-border terrorism,” the statement said. The group also pressed every member of the United Nations to help bring the attackers, their supporters, and those who funded the operation to justice—without delay.
Following the Pahalgam attack, tensions reached a breaking point. A military clash erupted between India and Pakistan. As part of its response, Pakistan launched a major military campaign titled Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. The operation targeted multiple Indian military sites across several regions.
During this counter-offensive, Pakistan claimed to have shot down six Indian fighter jets, including three French-made Rafale aircraft. Several Indian drones were also destroyed. The battle lasted for nearly 87 hours. It ended on May 10 after both sides agreed to a ceasefire.
US President Donald Trump played a key role in brokering the truce. He first announced the ceasefire on social media, stating that Washington had engaged both parties to ease the crisis. However, India disputed Trump’s claim. It insisted that the decision had nothing to do with US mediation or trade pressure.
Pakistan, on the other hand, praised Trump’s intervention. The country even formally nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. According to Pakistani officials, Trump’s involvement was crucial in de-escalating the conflict that began with the Pahalgam attack.
As international attention remains focused on South Asia, the Quad’s call for justice reflects growing concerns over militancy, regional security, and unresolved tensions in Kashmir. The push to hold the perpetrators accountable for the Pahalgam attack is gaining momentum. Calls for a thorough and unbiased investigation are echoing louder on the global stage.
